Week 1 - Success

Well, we have been here for a week now and slowly, but surely we are learning the ropes.  It amazes me how much there is to learn and how much organizing there is to do.  I have learned tho, that if something has a place to go and you put it back each time you use it - it will still be there when you go back for it.  Who knew?  If only I knew that before - I could have saved so much time in my life spent searching for things.  There are still a lot of things that need a "home" but a little at a time we are making space for everything and already weeding out some things that we thought would be important, but don't seem so much now.  I find that there is no "normal" right now - everything I have been doing for years is just a little bit different, some of it a lot different.  But that's what owners manuals are for.  And we have lots of those.....

But it's not all just learning and organizing.  The campground we are at is great - we couldn't have asked for a better choice for our first time.  So much so, that we decided to stay on for another week to get more comfortable.  We have lots of time and no particular place to go, so it seemed like the perfect choice.  Adding on the other week meant that we had to change campsites, which was a challenge in itself.  Unfortunately we couldn't just "push" it across the street.  We had to close everything up, hitch it up, pull it about 40 yards and go thru the whole unhitching/setup process.  At the time it was annoying, but it gave us some practice, so I guess it was a good thing.

We have finally gotten comfortable enough to leave the campsite and go out and start exploring.  We've found some nice roads to ride - being right on Lake Erie (which looks more like the Ocean right now) there were some beautiful views and lots of towns to wander thru.

And of course we may, or may not have found a few bars.  My personal favorite being a combination bar/drive thru supermarket/liquor store/Goodyear tire center - all under one roof.  We spent last evening hanging out with some local's at a bar and hearing the story of the local woman (who came in while we were there) who lost her dog and is offering a $10,000 reward for it.  We have something new to look out for now while we are riding around!  And we can't forget our other favorite - a bar right here in the campground where we can hang out and then walk home.  We've found The Walmart (several times), The Park with an awesome bike path and today we are hoping to go out and get a look at some of the wineries, which this area is famous for. Wine country is beautiful.

All in all, it's been a good week.  We are so happy to hear from friends back home - part of the fun of this is being able to share it with people you love.

  4. Looks like we missed so much there! We're hurrying along way to quick right now. I want to settle in somewhere. We will be I Bar Harbor Maine for 5 nights starting tomorrow. That should help.
Usually, if we have to change sites in order to stay, Jeff just opts to leave... because it really is just as much work to move 200 feet as it is to move 200 miles.
